Châtel Chablais Léman Cycle Race

If you are thinking about your first sportive abroad or one in the alps, this one is definitely for you. With less than a 1,000 entrants the roads are less hectic, starting and finishing in the same place, this is about as stress free a sportive can get. This fun sportive now includes a gravel event the day before the main road event on the Sunday, so you can make a weekend out of it and try a something new if you haven’t tried gravel biking before.

The race (153km) starts and finishes in Châtel, a ski resort in the summer in France and just a few minutes over the border from Switzerland. It’s about a 1 hour 30minute transfer from Geneva airport or the train around lake Geneva to the nearby station in the valley is an option.

There are 2 distances for the main event on Sunday, 153km or 72km which sees the route taking you through France and Switzerland via some stunning scenery. The 153km route is challenging but not too hard with climbs that aren’t the lung busting monsters experienced in the high alps. The descents are long and one of the highlights is the stunning view of lake Geneva on a clear day as you summit before the long descent to Evian for some water. The cycle along lake Geneva back in to Switzerland is the perfect way to practise your peloton riding skills. It can be fast and fun along the flats.

You can choose whether to take part in the gravel event or just the sportive on the Sunday.
