The Calendar

Day 0
Arrival to Martigny. The closest airport is Geneva. Private transfers can be organised for group bookings. Alternatively there is a direct train from Geneva Airport to Martigny where you will be picked up and transferred to your accommodation.

Day 1
Distance: 70km
Elevation Gain: 1,900m
Major Climbs: Col de la Croix de Coeur, 20km, Ave gradient 7%
An easy start from Martigny along the valley floor to warm up the legs, winding our way through vin yards and orchards before tacking our first climb starting from Riddes, and it’s a tough one! The Col de la Croix de Coeur at 2,174m. The views from the top are stunning and well worth the effort. A long descent through the ski resort of Verbier and down to Martigny is your reward for your efforts.

Day 2
Distance: 68km
Elevation Gain: 2,700m
Major Climbs:
Petite Forclaz, 4.1km, Max Gradient 15% – Col de la Forclaz, 8km, Avg. gradient 8% – Emosson Dam 13km, Ave. Gradient 6.6%, Max Gradient 11.7%
Day 2 gets a taste of what the professionals will experience in September with the Petite Forclaz climb. Luckily we will be doing this only once! Rather than heading back down to Martingy, the route takes up towards Emosson Dam at 1,967m, the finish of the 2016 Tour de France. There is still graffiti on the roads from the fans supporting their idols. It’s back down to Martigny for a well deserved rest.

Day 3
Distance: 110km
Elevation Gain: 2,800m

Major Climbs: Col du Sanetsch 29km, Ave. Gradient 6%, Max 8.7% – Col du Pillon
One of the best cycling secrets in Switzerland. This amazing loop is hard but worth the effort. A stunning climb that starts in the valley floor and climbs though vin yards, woodlands and meadows, with spectacular views of the mountains all around. The descent from the top of the Col du Sanetsch is a small cable car down to Gsteig, with a short climb to the top of Col du Pillon before a long descent down to the valley floor and the town of Aigle and back to Martigny.

Day 4
Distance: 40km
Elevation Gain: 1,300m
Major Climbs:
Col des Planches 10.2km, Ave. Gradient 8.9% Max 16.4% – Col du Tronc – Col du Lein
The final day of this epic trip starts with a steep climb straight from Martigny, the Col des Planches. The climb is a favourite on the Tour de Romandie and Tour de Suisse. The route includes the smaller Col du Tronc and Col du Lein on sections of unpaved roads before heading back towards Martigny.
